Prim lash challenged

Most of you know I'm into the "prim torture" thing. I enjoy twisting and shaping and cutting and forcing them into submission.

I love prim lashes. I think they are the most fabulous idea ever! I have no idea how I ever lived without them. I see people without pretty prim lashes and I wish that I had a pair of transfer lashes that I could give them.

But give me a pair of prim lashes and ask me to fit them and I quake in fear. I can literally spend hours trying to fit a pair of lashes.

My favorite lashes are the "Bedroom Lashes" by Cake. They've been a staple in my wardrobe since I found them back in May.

They're my ideal of the perfect lash. They're long, fluttery, soft and yet dramatic without looking like your mascara did that clumpy-gloppy-spider-leg thing. I've just spent an hour fitting this pair. The left eye (stage right) I'm pretty happy with finally. As long as I'm looking straight on at my eyes.

Then I turn my head and see this.

Still beautiful, no doubt. But see that space between the lower lashes (stage left) and my eye? Drives me crazy. You can see it some on the inner corner of the other eye. It's probably not so bad that the average person would notice it in regular conversation. But when I hop on a posing stand to start shooting ads, I see it. And then I go from "just going to shoot a quick ad" to "gotta make these lashes fit better first" and it the "quick" ad turns into a 3 hour ordeal.

Bird's eye view. I'm sparing you the up-the-nose view. I've tried every way I can think of to get that curve more tight fitting to my eyelid so there isn't that funky space. It's probably me being super picky, because I know that most people don't look at me from that angle, even though most of the grid is taller than I am. But usually you look straight on at someone, right?

I can get them closer to my eye, but then the ends of the lashes are up in my little avie's brain someplace. Hae never has this problem, her lashes always look perfect from every angle whenever I shoot her for ads. I've never really noticed anyone else having these issues. Is it my eyes? Are they funky? Are they too far into my head? Are they a funny shape that refuses to take prim lashes? Is there some trick to fitting these that I just haven't been made aware of?

I am not going without them, that's just not a viable solution. If anyone wants to start up a prim lash fitting business, call me. I'll be your first customer. I've got probably some 50 pairs of lashes from different people and in different styles and colors that you can fit to me.

OMIGAWD! I want those lashes! I can't find them, though. Is there a link?

I have such trouble fitting them, too. Getting help fitting things seems to be an unmet need here in SL. I tried forever to find a "tailor" who could help me adjust prim clothing to no avail. I made an appointment with a "hairdresser" to help fit some of my hair styles and - they stood me up! A prim eyelash fitter plus hair and prim clothing could make a fortune - at least they'd get all my Lindens.

You are not alone... Stumbelina's lashes make me feel like a total retard. I just cannot get to fit them, and I refuse to bulge my eyes and make them narrower to fit her shape :-). I have the same problem with Minnu Palen's lashes and I won't even touch the 3 prim lashes that Starley made

Instead I found the Vanity lashes from Sin Skin, and Sachi's prim lashes over at Adam 'n Eve way easier to fit.

Thank you! Now I know I'm not the only one! I was starting to think I was retaded :) . My problem is with the top lashes; cant fit them snuggly to my eyelid for the life of me - and I say that after HOURS of fiddling. I can't seem to take my system lashes down to 0, the value in the slider says 0 but I still have a little stubble that always gets in the way.... *pulling my hair* :)

So many people have yelled at me for not having prim lashes. I just can't do the linked prim thing! It's ridiculous! Of course, I also hate the raccoon effect before they've rezzed. Guess I won't be able to get away w/o wearing them for long.

I've had the same problem! So frustrating. I've found that they also conflict with a lot of the prim hair that I wear.. meaning, if i'm wearing hair with alpha in the bangs, forget it.
These are the reasons that I made a skin with lashes drawn on lol.
Not quite as dramatic as prim lashes but it works for me :)

You can find them at Cake, they're over by the skins: FNKY CAKE (128,46,23)

The Sin Skins lashes were my first, and they were a lot easier to fit now that I think about it. And I love Sachi's, too. But these bedroom lashes...I guess they're worth fighting with lol.

I have the old Charmed skins from Starley, and one of those has the drawn on lashes. This was, of course, before prim lashes, and I just LOVED that skin. I'd love to see more skin makers do that, too.

Haedon only had eyelashes on one eye the other day. For a while I thought it was just me not seeing her right. She'd removed one side because of her bangs and the alpha thing. So that's a workaround possibility with some hair.

I am totally retarded with prim lashes but I just hope that most people don't notice ;) I wear lashes from Starley, Cake and sachi depending on the makeup. None of them fit me perfectly though.

oh my im happy im not the only one lol i wear the top of the cake lashes and the bottom of minnu lashes and finally made them fit better not perfect but good enough loool took me hours though and i agree with lexi sometimes a skin wit painted on lashes is good too especially when wearing hair with alpha bangs etc. because it looks so funny when the lashes stick through the bangs lol

Hi guys. I have the exact same issue, but I just thought of something. Aren't prim lashes basically a cut and hollowed torus? In which case, wouldn't it be possible to reduce the bulge of the prim by minimizing the hole in the middle? They should be mod.

I'll play with it later and let you know what I come up with.

Oooo Tenshi, if you figure it out please let us know! I've tried everything I can think of. I don't know if it's dependent on how the texture is drawn - ie the curve of the texture itself, or on the prim. Maybe reducing the vertical repeats would help? Or that might just change the entire look of the lashes.

Changing the taper and top sear of the prims can help a little bit, but I still can't get them without that gap.

I'm so happy that it's not just me. Those bedroom lashes are awesome, and I could not figure how to get them closer to my eyes without them being eaten by my head. I finally decided that no one else was going to be looking at me that closely and said "good enough".

Oh yes, the lash problem. Everlasting. I have the exact same problem. I managed to get them a tad bit closer finally, after hours and hours just to find that I have to adjust them again for another skin with different makeup:P Oh well.

I rock at fitting prim clothing though, I rebuild every last skirt I get because I want *perfect* fit. Don't know why I'm such a klutz at lashes. I still wear Starley's lashes (those 3 prim ones), I tremble in fear with thought of fitting someone elses. Should try someday... Eek.

I would gladly offer the service of fitting clothes, but as far as I know, it's not in the lines of possible because I can't modify stuff someone else wears and no transfer isn't helping either.

Thanks for posting this. I've been totally frustrated and thought it was some kind of inadequacy on my part that I couldn't figure out how to get my lashes out of "hover" mode. And it's those exact ones I was playing with the other day. Besides the floating and the bangs problem, I feel like when I blink and the lashes stay in the same place, it just looks weird, but maybe that's just me. LOL

Know what really sucks? Having someone else fit your prim lashes usually involves a TOS violation. LL obviously doesn't want us to look good!

thank GOODNESS it's not just me! after spending hours doing lash-fitting yesterday (with my husband looking at me like i was crazier than normal) I've had enough!! What we need is the SL equivalent of Nigel from The Devil Wears Prada to groom us - step forward any volunteers!

The lashes that best fit me are from Sin Skins. I didn't had to adjust them. :)

I've tried to adjust other lashes but it looked good I had them away from my eyes. LOL
(I give up!)

Okay, having watched Celebrity Trollop's tutorial a third time, I've come to the conclusion that the secret is to find lashes where the top set isn't one part. It looks like the Celestial Studios lashes come in at least 2 parts per upper lash. It may take more work to fit each piece, but it would solve the problem of the lashes having too much of a curve and not laying flush w/the upper lid line.

I've tried the lashes from Sin Skins, Celestial Studios, and Cake, and have found the most success with the Cake lashes. Then again, the Cake lashes are the latest set of lashes I've fiddled with and I have -slowly- gotten better at editing prims.

Somewhere in the comments, someone mentioned the idea of breaking the prim lash pieces into more than just one piece -- what an excellent idea! I think I will try that sometime soon; make several copies of an upper lash, use the stretch function to make the prims smaller but do so without stretching their textures so that I have several smaller pieces that go together like a puzzle, and then try fitting them one at a time to smaller areas of the upper eyelid. Then just link it all back together afer? *Maybe* that will work better!
