Take Five

Well, I've been kind of taking five. We had a tropical storm here this weekend, and RL preparations have had me super busy. Thankfully it wasn't too bad. We did get about 12 inches of rain according to the five gallon bucket I forgot was outside.

I've been trying to catch up in-world the last few days. If you're waiting to hear from me on something, if you haven't heard by the end of today please send me another notecard.

Haedon put out two styles in all the new colors last week and I've put out three this morning. A few of these were moved up the list by request.

If there's a style we haven't gotten to yet that you're just dying to have in a new color pack, drop us a notecard, or post it here. We'll move it up the "to-do" list for you. :)

Here are the latest:

A long overdue rave - the Extremely Lazy Coloring Machine

Back when I was a brand spankin' new noob in Second Life, I came across KStarfire Rich in one of the classes I was in. I asked a (probably really stupid noob) question and he was the only one who offered any help. Coming from Star Wars Galaxies, I have this habit of reading profiles. So I read his profile and much to my surprise he was part of a Star Wars Galaxies Refugees group. I'd only been in SL maybe three weeks and was really missing SWG. So I sent him an IM and thanked him for his help. We got to chatting about SWG, and then other things, and he was the first male I ever allowed on my friend's list. (He doesn't know that, it'll probably go to his head.)

He was also fairly new and we spent lots and lots of time in Teazer's classes together. It was so bad that if there were two classes going at the same time that we wanted, one of us would go to each and then we'd swap notes afterwards. KStarfire is one of those people who can script in their sleep. I'd often go to him for help. He helped us figure out how our vendor boxes were going to work, and we're still using the same script we started with over a year ago.

I don't remember how the first one came about, probably because he was tired of me whining how long it took to color hair. He made this completely confusing (to me and Hae) thing that would crank out hair, but we had to script all the pieces, and we had to do all this stuff to the textures and there were all these things that we just had no idea what he was talking about. So I promptly looked at him like he was crazy. Told him I thought he was awesome, but whatever it was he was trying to explain and show me was just way, way over my head and much more work than we needed to do.

Little did I know. Many months later, I asked him if there were some way to make all this hair coloring easier because we now had some 60 colors instead of 25. So he puts together this scripty thing and all we have to do is paste the texture UUIDs, with some commands, and voila hair is colored! Some more commands and the hair is renamed, copy/paste/take copies, blahblah. Yay hair! He even made it so we could do trans textures and the regular textures. He made it so we could have only one side of the prim textured, thus completely eliminating that funky flexi-halo. We were pretty sure we'd died and gone to hair maker's heaven. Haedon dubbed it the "Lazy Coloring Machine" and the LCM was born.

We used that for quite a while until I heard about something called the Toaster by Sol Columbia who is quite the awesome scripter as well. So I went out and got two. And we started messing with it. We had all kinds of funky halo issues which there was no way to get rid of short of coloring each flexi end by hand. I talked to Sol about it a few times and we couldn't come up with any other method of fixing the halo issue. (Disclaimer: I am not knocking the Toaster, I think the toaster is awesome. Pure awesomeness. It just didn't do exactly what it was we needed.)

So, back we went to the LCM which took longer, but at least we had no halos. (Being the perfectionists that we are, halos are not acceptable.) I talked to KStarfire and told him there was this Toaster that spit out the hair but didn't do the multi-sided texture coloring and we had the halo. At that moment I'm pretty sure he thought I was an idiot. He told me about that first thing he made way back in the beginning. My little light bulb came on over my head. All these months later, I was finally able to understand what it was he'd made and was trying to explain to us. And I could have just kicked myself for not getting it then.

He gave it to me, and I made a few changes and "can we do x this way?" and played with the way it named things so that we didn't have to rename all the hair, etc etc. It had easy-peasy pop up boxes that told me what to do, when to do it and saved me hours and hours of coloring time. I told him I would have his little prim babies.

This new, improved ultra awesome version became the "Extremely Lazy Coloring Machine," fondly known as the ELCM.

And then...we decided to add more colors. Which has, of course, more than doubled our previous color selection. We have been able to get out the old styles in new colors considerably faster than we would have been able to months ago. The ELCM is the reason Haedon didn't entirely tear me limb from limb when I said "Let's add more colors!" It has really enabled us to do considerably more for you, our customers. We can now offer a much larger variety of colors and shades to match your every mood. We'll be able to do special Holiday editions considerably easier. I kiss my ELCM every day.

In short, it's made our lives and our jobs a hell of a lot easier. Sachi and Damen of Adam n Eve are using it too. Damen's been using it on his shoes, so this is certainly awesome for much more than just hair. Anything primmy, you can put into it and crank out in multiple textures. Sachi wanted the ability to use a third texture, which he'd already built in. (I only needed two, so he didn't mess with it.) KStarfire added that for her, and now ELCM V2 is out and in my pocket!

He is offering these to the public for sale. It comes with lifetime free updates to new versions, as well as customer support. So if you're a designer and create things with prims and are tired of the frustration and time involved in making oodles of copies to recolor, check this out. I will be happy to provide a live demonstration for you if you want to see how it works before you buy one. It's worth every Linden, and then some, I promise you that. What's worth even more, is having more time to do the things you want to do in SL and in your RL!

I don't know if he's got them up on SLExchange or not yet, but he is going to. He'll also sell them direct to you, just send him an IM.

And no, I'm not getting any commission off of these. I just know there are so many others out there who are spending a lot of time to make wonderful products for everyone in SL. If this enables them to spend more time with their families and friends (both RL and SL) than maybe we designers won't burn out so fast and keep making more fantastic stuff!

A very heartfelt and public thank you is in order. KS, you've always been there whenever I needed you. You've been an amazing friend, without pushing any boundaries or making me feel guilty for not spending enough time with you. You certainly deserve way more than you get. You've always come through for me, no matter what insane thing it was I was trying to do. You were the first to put lights over my head when I was working so I could see. You spent hours upon hours trying to help me figure out the flexi skirt that I just knew I had to figure out. We never did get it, but I'd never have gotten as far as I did without you. You were there in that first tiny little skybox we started in over a year ago. You endured hours of trying to help me figure out how an invisiprim works on shoes. You've given countless critiques, suggestions, and advice. For all the laughs, for the class notes, for the never-ending support and praise, for the patience and concern you've shown me, and for never even once asking for anything in return, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

And now, the rest of you, go buy an ELCM! If you don't need an ELCM, then send KStarfire Rich a little thank you note, for enabling you to have lots and lots more Calla hair!

Eight new and NEW colors!

See, we haven't just been slacking off! We put out eight new styles yesterday in all the colors - 175 was the final count. Our "I Want Them All" pack now includes all 175 colors for the hugely discounted price of $3500 L. We also put together 3 "Mega" packs for the Blondes, Brunettes, and Reds. Those include 25 of the colors (5 packs in each Mega pack) for the discounted price of $850.

We've added the following packs:

Auburns
Blackened Brunettes/darks
Blackened Reds
Bleached Blondes
Blues
Blue Tips
Burnt Auburns
Brunettes II
Confetti I (black with funky tips - the long awaited Black/Extreme Pink Tip is HERE!)
Confetti II (white with funky tips)
Dirty Blondes
Flambe (more reds!)
Greens
Green Tips
Highlights - which are Brunette and Auburns with lighter highlights, you MUST try these!
Pinks II
Purples
Purple Tips
Springs - they were so gorgeous we had to add them permanently
Spring White Tips

And the Dreams pack. These are the colors that were "dream colors" from the survey we did a little while ago that just didn't fit into any other pack.

A lot of the new color packs, like the pinks, the highlights, the blues and greens, as well as the Auburns and blackeneds were all in the list of "dream colors" too. So we definitely heard you all, took your suggestions and here they are!

While I was busy jabbing my eyeballs out doing textures, Haedon was super busy perfecting the flexi. I had a couple things in my pocket, but the majority of the styles in this release are hers.

Here's what we put out:

Black Poplar - This is Haedon's and is so awesome. She is rocking out the flexi as you're about to see! This is a great ponytail, very pretty movement of the hair and it's really long!

Fleur de lis - This may be one of my favorites. The hair "swishes" so naturally that all I do is stand around and watch it. It's got great fringed bangs and a very straight, sleek look. One of Hae's new flexi's and I promise you will not be disappointed!

Hazel - Gorgeous. Just look at her! It's a very feminine look, in a side-pulled low pony that is also very long with gorgeous flexi! Those bands are scripted color-change. Because you know how much we love those.

Hibiscus - Wait, maybe this one is my favorite. I love, love, love the pulled back bangs and the color change clip. I wore this one a good long time...well, until I forgot what Hae called it. But now I have it! In loooooots of colors. This one is all flexi too, and it just lays so pretty.

Hornbeam - This one took on a life of it's own. It was going to be an up-do when I started. I wonder if it's just me that has hair turn out nothing like they planned? Anyway, remember those "banana clips" from the 80's? This has that same look. There's some flexi in there, too and the band/clippy/banana thing is color change.

Lichen - This one's also mine, and it's just your no-nonsense short style. It has a clip on the side holding back some of the bangs. The clip is not color change, but as always, our hair is mod so if you really want to, you can change the color. Or IM one of us for the color change script and we'll pass you a copy. It's just a little silver bobby-pin like clip so I didn't go overboard with it.

Pink Ginger - Pretty ponytail from the front, amazing work of art in the back! This one is Haedon's and she's done an incredible job with the twisty, chopsticks, oriental look in the back. Those sticks are scripted color-change, and the hair is flexi. It's really a very elegant style, and would be fantastic for casual or dressing up.

Saffron - And last, but definitely not least is this fabulous ponytail. It's really long and moves gorgeously. There are also little side pieces that are clipped back by the ears. The bands are scripted color-change (duh!) and it has the fabulous face framing bangs that Haedon does so well!

Wrapping up Relay for Life

Relay for Life wraps up this weekend, and it's been a pleasure to be a part of it this year! We were just setting up our first shop when the RFL efforts were drawing to a close last year. Someone happened to wander into our little skybox shop and tell us about the Relay for Life, and that they were relaying across several sims. It sounded amazing and at the time I thought, "What a fantastic idea!" I've been really glad to be a part of it all this year.

We're part of a fabulous team, Shopaholics for a Cure, headed up by Shai Delacroix and Grazia Horwitz. Our team, as of this moment, has raised $L 1,358,555 - which is more than $ 4,500 USD!!!

As you all know, we've had styles out in the limited edition Relay for Life colors for a while.

But now, for the final hoorah, we've done some more. These are available for ONE DAY only at the Shopaholics for a Cure Relay for Life location:

http://slurl.com/secondlife/RelayForLife28/49/45/25/

There are some fabulous other "One Day Only" items there, and 100% of the proceeds, as always, go to the American Cancer Society. Please, drop some L (or some cash!) for a good cause as the fund raising draws to a close in SL for this year.

Here are the One Day Only items from us:

(This hat is actually the RFL purple, but it looks a little off in this ad. Trust me though, it's darker.)

Don't forget, there's lots going on this weekend across many sims (I saw 32!) and it's all for a good cause, so please come out and support the people who have put so much into making this a fantastic event as well as the American Cancer Society.

To fork or not to fork

[17:13] Tigerlily Koi shares warm brownies
[17:13] Haedon Quine loves you long time
[17:19] Tigerlily Koi: stupid question of the day.
[17:19] Tigerlily Koi: do you eat a brownie with a fork?
[17:19] Haedon Quine: no I try to shove as much of it in my mouth as possible and hope to catch the crumbs AS I pick up another one to save time
[17:19] Tigerlily Koi: lmao
[17:20] Tigerlily Koi: omg lmao
[17:20] Haedon Quine: :D
[17:20] Tigerlily Koi: omg I love you
[17:20] Haedon Quine: lol <3!!!
[17:21] Tigerlily Koi: no, really, like you cut a brownie, do you get a fork, or just a plate?
[17:21] Haedon Quine: your brownie has time to touch a plate?
[17:21] Haedon Quine: like seriously?
[17:21] Tigerlily Koi: (hubby) brought me a brownie, on a plate, with a fork
[17:21] Tigerlily Koi: omg dying lmao
[17:21] Haedon Quine: >.>
[17:22] Haedon Quine: no I pick it up with my hands like a caveman
[17:22] Tigerlily Koi: thank god, me too
[17:23] Haedon Quine: the only exception I make is when it's warm and gooey and covered with a mound of vanilla ice cream. then a spoon is acceptable. But that is the one and only rule in the brownie rule book.

On a side note, thanks for the comments about Ranger. He was awesome, and it really does help to know that someone else understands. *hugs* girls!

Much <3,
Lily

From 60 to....

I think textures are done. Unless we come up with some wild idea for a new pack. Which....gawd. Don't make me think about it.

We currently have 60 colors that are out, every day. Add in the LTD Edition textures (for holidays and whatnot) and we have ... 60+.

My brain is so, so fried.

Anyway. I counted last night. And, assuming my math is correct (which it rarely is) we'll be going from 60 textures to 145.

Seriously, if there is any color that you're just dying for us to have, you better speak now. 'Cause the thought of having to do all this ever again makes me cry. I'll probably get over it in time for whatever the next holiday is. Maybe. It's been pretty traumatic.

I might uninstall PSP for a while after this.

I took an hour and worked on trying to make a style, and my poor brain is so mushy that it took me a few minutes to remember how to torture the prims into the shape I wanted. That's pretty sad. Thank goodness tomorrow's my day off!

We've got horse riding lessons in the morning for the 4 year old. My lesson is canceled because the horses will all be at a show for the weekend. So I have to skip. But, we're going to the show and I'll get to see the horse I ride do his Western stuff, so I'm excited about that.

WARNING! VERY SAD! DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE HORMONAL, PREGNANT, PMSING, OR OTHERWISE WEEPY!!!

The horse I'd been riding for lessons was awesome. His name was Ranger. He was an older (20-something) horse who was just as hard headed as they come. But he was gentle and he was patient and he was just wonderful. He made me work, and hard. I had to get everything right before he'd do what I asked. If I didn't do things right, he didn't do anything. He'd just stop and wait for me to get my act together. I started to figure things out because he'd make me. Two weeks ago, the stable owner was outside when I was leaving and asked how my ride was. I told him it was great. He said "I didn't think that horse would be worth anything when I bought him, but everyone who rides him loves him." I smiled, because I did love him. I almost offered to buy him, but my husband would have had a heffer right there on the spot. I said "He's hard-headed, but he's sweet." And the stable owner just looked at me, and there was this...I don't know, it's hard to explain. Just this almost unsettling feeling.

I got a call from my riding instructor (who is THE UBERNESS) Friday evening. She called to tell me that Ranger and another horse had been struck by lightning in a bad storm we had Tuesday night (7/10). They'd both died. I was just dumbstruck. I loved that horse, and honestly had every intention of asking them to let me buy him. I asked Saturday when I went to the stables what had happened, and she told me that they'd been standing together and "One fell one way and one fell the other." You just never think about stuff like that. I don't, anyway. It's pretty uncommon for one horse to get struck by lightning, but two? Maybe because they were standing together? I don't know. It's been one of those hard to believe things. :( But I'm glad I got the time with him I did. He taught me a lot in a short time and I'm sure he's running in greener pastures.

Here's a picture of a horse that looks a lot like he did.

Please shoot me now

So, adding some more colors to our existing color packs has turned into "Let's revamp everything!" This is Hae's payback for me adding colors and making her color everything.

Something you guys may have noticed about us: We don't half-do things. It's all or nothing. Haedon's a perfectionist. She also brings out my perfectionist side. Some things I don't care so much about perfection on, but Calla is definitely not one of those things. If it's not good, you guys won't see it. I don't put out anything that I wouldn't be happy to wear myself. (Okay, aside from Extreme Green. Sorry. Just, no.)

We pay a lot of attention to the little things, and believe me, what I miss, Haedon catches. It's a really great system and I truly think we make the best team ever.

In reviewing the results of the color feedback from y'all, Hae says "I don't like those two little dark spots in our textures." Which really translates into "Please redo them and take that out." So, I'm eyeball deep in textures and you guys may not see much of me over the next week. The change is so minor that most of you won't notice the difference, other than it looks a little shinier. And that's not a bad thing, right?

The frosted/burnts and tips are kicking my butt though. So far the score is Textures - 15 (hours) Me - 0.

Please pray that my head doesn't implode.

Oh and as a side note, because we've had a few people ask: Our current colors are not going anywhere.

Who says brown is boring?

I have to confess. I'm a brunette. I fought it for many years because as a kid I was blonde. Until I hit puberty. No way was I gonna go brown! So I dyed it for...well, about 10 years. Ack! I finally gave up and let my brunette shine through, and I kinda liked it.

So, the brunettes in this test batch are anything but boring! There are some beautiful, rich brunettes. Some with a hint of red, some on the "just past blonde" side.

Gimmie a notecard named "Calla Brunettes Tester - YOUR NAME" and I will pass you the brunettes pack. I need your notecard back no later than Friday. I'd love it, like tomorrow but I'm not gonna come beating on your IM window until Friday night.

Much brownie love!

Blondes are ready!

I've done a few more blondes, and added them to the ones that have made it through testing so far.

There are a few that I really like, and I'm not usually a blonde kinda girl. So hopefully there will be something that strikes your fancy.

You know the drill by now, notecard named "CALLA BLONDES TESTER - YOUR NAME HERE" dropped to me and I'll get you the survey pack.

There were an overwhelming number of Reds Testers which was SO exciting! I'm hoping for that many blondes testers.

I'd love to have these back by Wednesday so I can work on the results while the grid is offline. But I won't be bitchy if it takes you till Friday.

I'll be sending out the Brunettes tomorrow, so we'll be overlapping a little bit on these two. But I wanna hurry and get new colors pinned down!

Reds testers!

Another batch of colors to test, this time it's all reds! There are some really close colors this time, some are just slightly different. I think I've narrowed down which way you all lean but I want to be sure.

Some you've seen before but I figured it might be good to be able to compare all the reds at one time.

So, same as before, and I'd *love* these back by Friday if that's not pushing it.

Drop me a notecard with the name "Calla Reds Tester - YOUR NAME" and I'll get the pack right to you.

I'm thinking I'm going to do the same thing with the blondes and brunettes, so I want to make this one a quickie.
